White House Targets Painkiller Abuse
Today, there is a some type of pill available for almost any type of pain. While many are prescribed a certain painkiller, take it responsibly, and do not think twice when the prescription comes to an end. There is almost double the amount of people who not only abuse the prescription they are given but unfortunately become addicted to it.
American’s in today’s society are facing a huge public health crisis in the form of prescription drugs. The death rate due to the epidemic is outstanding with a reported 28,000 deaths in 2007. One of the most disturbing trends of the crisis is most of the abuse is not only coming from prescribed clients. The feeling from the pill is so powerful many who are not prescribed will do whatever they can to get their hands on the drug.
This epidemic has caused for the White House to put a plan into action. They have set a 5 year goal to cut the rate of abuse by 15%. The plan will include both educating both patients are doctors on proper use of prescribed pills and implementing a risk evaluation. Their hope with the plan is to cut down and attempt to eliminate drug abuse, overdose, and death.
