Certain strains of Gonorrhea have become resistant to certain antibiotics such as penicillin, tetracycline, and fluoroquinolones. With the increasing amount of resistance, gonorrhea is slowly becoming a “superbug”. A superbug is a virus which is resistant to all antibiotics available. An example of a superbug is the virus MRSA.
Doctors say the resistants are becoming more common and the spread of the disease is getting worse. Scientists and researchers are trying to come out with ways to prevent antibiotic resistants. It is always important to use protection and regularly get an STD test done, however with antibiotics not being effective it is even more important. With more and more individuals getting the disease the harder it is to find a cure because the virus becomes resistant to more antibiotics. For now scientists can only hope for the best and hope they can find a way to control the disease before it becomes 100% resistant to antibiotics.
