Every Girl’s Dream Dress

Everyone was watching as William and Kate said ‘I do’ last week. Cameras were flashing to capture every moment of their special day and women all over the world were commenting on her satin and lace gown. CBS has reported that Kate will have her dress, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, on display for the public to view in the United Kingdom. The display location has not been decided upon yet but places on the list are the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Hampton Court Palace.

The Duchess’ dress is made of satin gazar and hand-cut English lace totaling a cost of over $400,000. There was so much secrecy surround the making of Kate’s dress that even the people working on it were not told who the dress was going to be worn by. This was to avoid any information leaking out to the media prior to the big reveal on the wedding day. However, once the Duchess stepped out into public view Friday it only took a few hours for copies of the dress to be put into the making. Garment factories in China are selling copies for as little as £70 and fashion designers in New York will have copies made within 8 weeks and on the market for $2,000.

The maid-of- honor, Pipa Middleton, also made heads turn with her dress which is said to become the most requested brides-maid dress of the upcoming year.

Do You Have a Summer Job?

Teens face jobless summer

Once summer arrives many teenagers are excited for the freedom from tests, teachers, and long days of what seems like endless classes. Many are also excited to begin their summer jobs and make their own money. However with the slumping state of the economy that usually easily attainable summer job may no longer seem so easy to get.

This summer critics are predicting another jobless summer for thousands of teenagers across America. Teenagers ages 16 to 19 are who are predicted to be hit with the unemployment assumption. This age group has seen the largest decline of summer employment over the years with a 19% drop in the past 10 years. If this scary trend continues only one in four teenagers will be able to secure a summer job.

While the stats have many parents nervous, there are effective ways for teenagers to land that summer job. One way is by applying early. Even if teenagers begin the job a few weeks before school ends they are at least securing the position for the entire summer. Summer jobs are important for allowing teenagers to gain a sense of independence and responsibility of handling money. They can also be used as resume builders for early college internships.
