Kid Rock wins NAACP Award

It has been recently reported that Kid Rock has won the Great Expectation award from The National Association For The Advancement of Colored People in the Detroit branch. The reasons for him winning this award are still up in the air and the controversy surrounding this just keep growing. Many believe that he won this award only on the strength of his “love” for African-Americans while others disagree stating that his constant use of the confederate flag speaks differently. When accepting this award, Rock states that, “I’ve never flown that flag with hate in my heart, not one ounce”. He goes on to say in his acceptance speech that, “I love America, I love Detroit, and I love black people” Does your love for a race give you the right to win an award?
With Kid Rock winning this award, it only shows that racism is still alive, but it shows that there is still hope. When hearing that Kid Rock won this award, the response instantly goes to racial differences from many people. Although many are also saying that the only reason he has won this award was because he donated 50,000 dollars and that this is his way of making his peace for using the confederate flag as his signature symbol for many years despite the horrible meaning behind it, winning the award is a symbol of moving forward.
