1989 Movie “Predictions” for 2015

Backfu2

The sequel of Back to the Future, Back to the Future II, stars Michael J. Fox, Christopher Llloyd, and Lea Thompson. It won numerous awards and an Oscar nominee. The movie was released 1989 and to the younger generation now, it may seem like ancient history. The movie made some, what you may call crazy, “predictions” of the technological advances for the years ahead.

Back to the Future II was based around the year 2015. The technology is what you may call out of reach for the next four years coming. There was inventions such as, flying cars, power laced sneakers, and self-drying clothing. Though these have a less likely chance of being successfully invented in the next four years, there may be a few “predictions” that may come true.

In the movie, two younger boys complained about having to use their hands while playing video games. The “prediction” was children were going to be less active than ever before. All the technology we have now is amazing, but little by little it’s making us less “mobile”.

I do believe that one day we will have flying cars and shoes that automatically tie themselves, but right now it seems farther away than what it seemed in 1989. This movie makes us think about our futurist movies and “predictions” that we make. Unlike this movie, do you think our predictions will come true?

The War of Tornadoes

Deadly tornadoes churn across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas

An unreal series of tornadoes has been ripping through the mid-west of the United States for the past few months. The damage has been irreversible and thousands of families have not only lost everything but have lost each other. The death toll for this tornado season stands at about 500, making it one of the largest in history.

Recently, the tornadoes have been making they’re tear through Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas. The death toll is currently at a least 15 with the grim fate that it will rise. Oklahoma has suffered the largest amount of tragedy with 10 deaths, three people lost their lives in Arkansas, and two were killed in Kansas. Along with the death toll comes the missing person toll. Search teams are in full force to find those who are currently missing from this tragedy.

The tornadoes are continuing they’re destruction with no signs of stopping. They have spread into the Missouri area taking an astounding 120 lives and continued down to Texas. Thousands of families are preparing to face the storms while thousands more are donating to those who lost everything. All hope the destruction comes to an end in the near future.

Hewlett’s Hubris

Hewlett Packard, set to debut their version of Apple’s iPad and Google’s Android OS this summer, has a pretty high opinion of itself these days. Several HP executives, including HP’s European chief Eric Cador, have expressed their belief that the TouchPad will overtake all competitors in the tablet, including the established entities such as the iPad.

HP’s confidence spills over into unjustified arrogance, as they have been severely outpaced by Apple (who has already launched the iPad2). Even if the product HP puts out is as good as the iPad, what incentive do people have to choose it over the iPad brand? The answer is there might not be any. Unless something drastic occurs to cause a spike in early sales of the TouchPad, it will likely not take hold of any significant share of the tablet market which Apple and the iPad currently have a stranglehold on, owning approximately 80% of the market. That’s not to say that HP’s newest product will be a failure by normal standards; there are always people out there looking for an alternative, no matter what the product. However, HP’s mostly unfounded hubris with respect to the prospects of the TouchPad vis-a-vis the iPad can only be looked at as an arrogant marketing ploy or a point of embarrassment in the future when sales figures don’t match HP’s bravado. Time will tell, but it’s difficult to imagine a scenario in which the TouchPad doesn’t occupy a meager share of the tablet market.

NBA Playoffs are Red-Hot

The NBA Playoffs are red-hot now with four team that are giving all in each game, but as I predicted before the teams that are leading the series are the Dallas Mavericks, and the Miami Heat.

The Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunders series is a very interesting match up, but the Dallas Mavericks have the edge with Dirk Nowitzki who’s the Team super star, the Dallas Mavericks have the lead in the series which is 3-1 and are just one game away of the NBA Finals.

The Miami Heat vs The Chicago Bulls are also a very interesting series. the Miami Heat have the lead in the series just like Dallas 3-1 over the Bulls which will need to win the rest of the game in the series to advance to NBA Finals and the Heat just need another win to make it. James, Wade, and Bosh are the head of the Miami Team and will try to closed the series in their next appearance against the Chicago Bulls.

I think that the NBA Finals will be Dallas vs Miami, but that’s my opinion. What 2 teams do you think will be in the NBA Finals ???
