Homemade Conditioner for Dry Hair

Dry hair is something we may experience if using heat styling, over washing hair, or too much sun exposer. Dry hair leads to slip ends, brittle hair, and is prone to breakage. This can be really frustrating to some women.

To help ease the problem, instead of buying conditioner, try this home remedy.

What You’ll Need:

2-3 tbsp. warm water

2 tbsp. protein powder

1 tbsp. jojoba oil

1 egg yolk

7 drops myrrh essential oil

3 drops geranium essential oil

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients until you reach an easily spreadable paste form.
  2. Wash your hair.
  3. Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair with your fingers.
  4. Massage the hair conditioner into the rest of your hair and your scalp.
  5. Cover your hair with a shower cap and preheated towel. Leave on 1 – 2 hr.

Rinse with cold water to prevent eggs from cooking and style as usual.

Tips On How to Get a Safe Mani/Pedi

Going out to relax and get a pampered for a change is always a nice treat for yourself, but not all salons are clean. According to Podiatrist Dr. Robert Spalding, 75 percent of salons in the U.S. aren’t following their states procedure for disinfecting. Also it’s estimated one million unwary salon clients walk out with bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. It’s never a bad thing to treat yourself, but keep in mind that you’re always at risk. Follow these tips to make your next trip to the salon safer:

If using a spa chair with jet baths, ask an employee to change the filter while you’re present. This is because most salons don’t change them on a regular basis. (Should be changed after every use) This is bad because recycled water gets circulated throughout the system.

It’s always best to bring your own tools if you can. If using the salon’s, be sure that disposable tools come straight out of its sealed wrap. Also if the tools are reusable and the salon is using Barbicide as a disinfectant, be sure the solution is clear, not cloudy. Or if the salon is using a UV Light sanitizer, the instruments must be under light for at least 25 minutes.

Protect yourself by using a mask to decrease the risk on inhaling harmful chemicals while getting acrylics. The manicurist should be wearing one too.
If something does feel right, follow your instincts and leave.

Colleges Help Students Pay Off Loans

Private liberal arts colleges might begin to follow in the footsteps of law schools around the country, as they are now offering to help students pay off their lones after they graduate.

The financial aid benefit, which targets students who expect to pursue careers in low-paying public-service fields, helps colleges find and retain those students who would otherwise enroll somewhere cheaper, or nowhere at all. Colleges want to help those students who, although excellent, suffer from the fear and hassle of paying back student loans after graduating.

An annual survey by UCLA’s Higher Education Research Institute has said that a growing number of college freshmen are saying they did not attend their dream school due to high costs in tuition. This is what colleges today want to help avoid.

According to USA Today, Erica Harris, 22, a May graduate of Huntington University said, “I don’t have to worry about how much money I’m going to be making. It frees me up to do what I feel I’m called to do.” Huntington University offered to help Harris pay off her loans, after she almost withdrew due to finances.

If a student’s job after he or she graduates pays less than $20,000 a year, the loan repayment plan will cover that year’s payments. Another great aspect of this is that participating students pay nothing for this benefit. Instead, the college pays a fee of about $1,200 per student per year to LRAP Association, a company that uses the pooled funds to repay qualifying graduates.

Mavs Win It All

Last time the Dallas Mavericks played against the Miami Heat in the NBA Playoffs, they lost. They weren’t going to let that happen this year. Last night, the Mavs took the big win against Miami at 105 – 95. The Mavs celebrated on Heat floor, just as the Heat did to the Mavericks in the 2006 title series.

The star of the Mavs, Dirk Nowitzki, said yesterday, “I really still can’t believe it.” Nowitzki had 21 points and took home finals MVP honors.

Jason Terry, who made an essential 3 pointer late in the fourth quarter of Game 5 said about Game 6, “Tonight, we got vindication.” He led Dallas yesterday with 27 points.

LeBron James, on the other hand, did not. He will have to wait for at least one more year for a chance at his first ever NBA title.

The Heat stars were simply not able to match the scores of the Mavs’. Last night, James scored 21 points, Chrish Bosh had 19, Mario Chaumers 18 and Dwayne Wade only 17. These scores were not enough to beat the Mavs who began the game and ended it with so much power and adrenaline, prepared to win it all.

Nowitzki went on to say, “We worked so hard and so long for it. The team has had an unbelievable ride.”

Although the Heat worked hard too, but unlike Dallas, their ride was far from a joyride. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said, “It goes without saying, you’re never really prepared for a moment like this… Neither team deserved this championship more than the other, but Dallas earned it.”
