Minnesota congresswoman and Republican presidential contender Michele Bachmann made her debut on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.”

Leno, who often uses Bachmann as a basis for his jokes, asked her for her positions on such topics as the HPV vaccine and gay rights.

Bachmann continued to defend her disagreement on fellow Republican presidential contender and Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s 2007 executive order that demanded all girls in Texas schools receive the vaccination.  She also defended her statement about how a woman told her that her daughter suffered “mental retardation” due to the vaccine.  There is currently no record to prove this statement.

Leno also asked Bachmann about her views on gay rights.  She reasserted her opinion that marriage should be between a man and woman, and then defended the two clinics that her and her husband run.  The clinics are ones of controversy as they use a type of therapy that encourages patients to change their sexual orientation to straight.

Bachmann also discussed the debt ceiling and who she would choose as her running mate if she won the Republican nomination.

Affected customers are being asked to direct their questions and concerns to their pharmacists.

Hospital Chain to Offer Health Insurance

A hospital chain in Massachusetts started a program on Friday, September 16, that allows patients to buy health insurance from them.

The chain is owned by Steward, a Massachusetts-based business that has been buying hospitals for over a year.  The plan is called the Steward Community Choice, and only allows those with it to seek care at their hospitals.

The plan is targeted at small businesses and will be 20 to 30 percent cheaper than other coverage.  One drawback though is that those with the insurance will get limited treatment, with only a few exceptions.

Currently, there is some skepticism over whether the plan will work or not, as those like it in the past have failed. However, Steward plans to go on with the program.
