California Bans Public Display of Guns

California Gov. Jerry Brown has banned the public display of handguns.

Brown said that he signed the bill at the request of law enforcement officials and it will go into effect on Jan. 1.

Prior to the signing of the law, California allowed weapons to be displayed in public, as long as they were not loaded.  This law created confusion amongst cops as they would receive calls about people with guns who were not actually using them.

With Brown signing the bill, he took a position in the fun debate.  Currently, forty-two states allow people to openly carry guns.

BET Founder’s “RLJ Rule”

BET founder Robert Johnson has come up with a plan called the “RLJ Rule,” which he believes will provide African-Americans jobs.

The “RLJ Rule” would make all Fortune 1000 companies interview at least two black candidates for high-level positions and talk to two black-business owners before making contracts.

The rule is being compared to the NFL’s “Rooney Rule,” which requires the NFL to interview at least one person of color for coaching and executive positions.  The rule is name after Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney and has led to five black head coaches being in the Superbowl, and to two wins.

Johnson came up with the rule after noting that plans implemented by President Barack Obama haven’t worked.

Currently the only negatives to the plan is that the plan only addresses higher level jobs and not entry-level work.

The city has already had to pay $300,000 to Jose Colon and his brother Maximo who were falsely arrested that night by Anderson and fellow cop Henry Taravez.

Young Vietnamese Woman Ages Rapidly

A Vietnamese woman has aged rapidly in over a matter of days.

Nguyen Thi Phuong, a 26 year-old, has a strange condition that has given her a puffy face and skin folds all over her body.  Her appearance makes her appear 50 years older than she actually is.

Phuong says she believes the rapid change in appearance came from a bad allergy reaction to seafood.  She took some medication and immediately experienced side effects.

Doctors believe she could have a rare skin condition called lipodystrophy, which is when a layer of fat under the skin goes away, but the skin continues to grow.  Only around 2,000 people have the condition.

Phuong now refuses to leave the house without a mask on and despite her condition, her husband has remained devoted to her.

Employee Told to Stop Giving CPR to Dying Co-Worker

Last month, in Garfield Heights, Ohio, a Time Warner Cable customer service rep passed away at her desk.  She was slumped down in her chair when a co-worker attempted to give her CPR to save her.  The co-worker was then told by her boss to stop while trying to give CPR to 67-year-old Julia Nelson and to “get back on the phone and take care of customers.”  The co-worker was also told that if she had kept going that she could’ve been held accountable if anything went wrong.  However, a law was passed in Ohio called a “Good Samaritan” law that “protects bystanders who provide emergency aid from being sued for unintentional injury or wrongful death.”  Nelson did not receive the help that she should have.  The police are still reviewing this incident and hope to find out more information.
