State College Students Take to Streets in Support of Paterno

The  student body at Penn. have taken to the streets in order to support the football coach Joe Paterno, after he and university President Graham Spanier were fired.

The two were linked to surrounding sex abuse allegations against the former defense coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

The students crowded the streets of downtown State College Wednesday night, gathering two blocks from campus.

The crowd shouted, “We want Joe! We want Joe!” Some shook a lamp post, while others reportedly tipped a news van and kicked in the windows.

Outside of Paterno’s home, a smaller crowd surfaced. He had announced his intent to retire after the football season earlier that day.

He told students he would have to get used to not coaching after being fired.
