‘Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Pt. 1′ Wins Weekend Box Office

The latest film in the “Twilight” franchise made $72 million on opening day, with $30.3 million in midnight grosses alone.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Pt. 1” nows ranks as the third largest single day opening of all time.  It’s behind “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Pt. 2,” which grossed $91 million in July and “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which earned $72.7 million two years ago.

“Breaking Dawn” is expected to make $135 million, behind “New Moon’s” $142 million three-day take.

The film in second place was “Happy Feet Two.”  The sequel to the Oscar winning animated film made only $6 million on Friday, and is expected to make $22-24 million this weekend.

“Immortals” fell to third place, with an expected $12-13 million weekend.  The film has only made $44.5 million in its first eight days and it’s turning out to not be the blockbuster Relativity was hoping for.

Adam Sandler’s “Jack and Jill” made $3.5 million on Friday and has only made $32.5 million in eight days.  At fifth place was “Puss in Boots,” which made $3.4 million on Friday, bringing up it’s total to $115 million.
