MIT Set to Create Printable Robo-Assistants

MIT announced a plan called “An Expedition in Computing Printable Programmable Machines” to create a robot that every person can use for specific tasks.

The robot is supposed to be able to assist you in anything you need, from cleaning to playing with your pets. According to MIT scientists, all the consumer would need is a robo-printer and to know the type of robot he or she wants. People would be able to choose their robot from a catalog based on their needs.

The project is slated to take five years, and will cost somewhere near $10 million. MIT is collaborating with both Harvard University and the University of Pennsylvania to make this possible.

So far, two different prototypes have been created: an insect-like robot and a gripper. They both cost about $100 a piece to build, and around 70 minutes to create.

These robots would not be available to the general public until at least 2017. For more information, click here.
