93-year-old Rachel Veitch has decided to sell her 1964 Mercury after over 48 years driving it.
Veitch, who is a Florida grandmother, bought the Mercury Comet Caliente in February 1964 for only $3,289. The car has outlasted three marriages and 18 batter changes.
Veitch had to give up the car in early March after becoming legally blind. She choose to sell the car instead of passing it down to a family member because she’s concerned they won’t look after it.
The car is worth around $12,000 today. It’s been through three sets of shock absorbers and eight exhaust mufflers. It will appear in an antique car show in Wisconsin in July.
Veitch, who has four children, nine grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, hopes to sell the car to late night show host Jay Leno, who is a classic car enthusiast.
