Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Engaged!

Hollywood’s megastar couple have finally decided to get hitched!

After around 8 years together, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have gotten engaged.

Pitt’s manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, confirmed the news on April 13, 2012.  ”Yes, it’s confirmed.  It’s a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy.  There’s no date set at this time,” Pett-Dante said in a statement.

The engagement ring, which cost $500,000, was custom made by Pitt with help from Beverly Hills jeweler Robert Procop.

The news of Pitt and Jolie’s engagement comes as a bit of a shock, especially since in 2006, Pitt admitted that he and Jolie weren’t planning to get married until gay marriage was legalized in all of the states.  But apparently constant pushing from their brood of six children led to the engagement, as all of them wanted their mother and father to tie to knot.

Jolie and Pitt met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005.  The couple has three adopted children: Maddox, Zahara, and Pax, and three biological children: Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox.

An 11-year-old-boy has been commended for his plan to save the Euro.

Jurre Hermans from the Netherlands sent in his own plan to the Wolfson Economics competition which asked people to come up with their best plan for dealing with a eurozone break-up.

While Hermans didn’t win, he did receive a special mention and was given a 100-euro gift voucher.

Hermans plan was for Greeks to be incentivised to return their euros for their old currency, the drachma, as debt repayment.  He also said that if they didn’t return their euros, they would have to be fined at least the amount of money they held back.

The list of finalists was shortlisted to five, which are that of Roger Bootle and Capital Economics, Cathy Dobbs, a private investor, Jens Nordvig and Nicko Firoozye of Nomura Securities, Neil Record of Record Currency Management, and Jonathan Tepper of Variant Perception.  The Wolfson prize is only second in value to the Nobel Prize and is worth around $170,000.

More Americans Than Expected Filing for Unemployment

Even though in the week of April 14 applications for unemployment insurance payments decreased, more American filed for jobless benefits than was expected.

The payments decreased by 2,000, to 386,000, but the number was still above the market expectation, which was 370,000.

Only 120,000 workers were hired in March, which was also lower than expected, even while the unemployment rate dropped to 8.2 percent.

However, they believe that there were some one-time factors that caused weakness in March, and that April will be better. There is hope that there will be job growth of over 200,000 a month for the rest of 2012.

Oracle is demanding that Google pay hundreds of millions of dollars for damages in addition to licensing fees for using Java. Google claims that their Android software does not infringe on any copyrights or patents of Java.

Michael Jacobs, Oracle’s lawyer, used emails between the two companies in court that suggested Google knew it should pay licensing fees to Oracle for Java.

According to Google, former CEO of Sun Microsystems, Jonathan Schwartz, supported Android’s use of Java. Schwartz is also supposed to testify for the company.
