Dixon, Illinois Chief Financial Officer Rita Crundwell is allegedly stealing money from the coffers, around $33.2 million, to fund her lavish lifestyle.

Crundwell, 58, allegedly took $3.2 million and misappropriated more than $30 million, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said.

Crundwell was charged with one count of wire fraud. Her scheme was caught when a city employee took over for Crundwell when she took an unpaid extended vacation. This employee sent a bank account statement to Dixon Mayor James Burke, who did not know that this bank account existed.
