Students at Chester College of New England rallied on May 7th in hopes that they can save their school from closing due to funding issues.
Both students and faculty have asked President Bob Baines to step down in order to help keep the school open. However, Baines has no plans to step down and has said he is working to come up with the best solution for the school’s funding problem.
In order to open next school year, Chester has to raise at least $500,000 by the May 11th. They have managed to raise $100,000 so far.
Students are upset with Baines for his refusal to answer their questions. Despite their call for his stepping down, the school’s Board of Trustees has decided to stay by the president.
The reason the school is facing financial issues is due to the school’s enrollment. There are currently only 119 students on campus, but they need 185 to be financially stable.
