Fraternity Suspended Because of Racist Bombs

The Sigma Pi fraternity at Cornell University has been put on temporary suspension after allegedly throwing bottles and spouting insults at a group of passersby on the street below their house.

The case became something more than a bit of college rowdiness when reports came that the fraternity shouted racially charged insults at the group of black students.  One even is reported to have taunted them with, “Come up here, Trayvon,”a reference to the highly publicized killing of teenager Trayvon Martin in Florida last February.

The Ithaca Police department is conducting a criminal investigation of the case and at the moment that is the best that can be done.  With numerous party goers passing through the doors of the fraternity house that night, one true perpetrator may never be found.

Closure is not something worth seeking in a case like this.  Even if all are punished, the reality of the situation does not change.  The image remains.  A group of privileged students standing above the others and reminding them, that no matter what they strive to achieve, they will never be treated as equal in ever circle.
