3 Boston University Students Pronounced Dead in Accident Abroad

Three Boston University students were pronounced dead at the scene of a minivan crash in New Zealand during their stay in the country for a study abroad program.

Daniela Lekhno, 20, Austin Brasheears, 21, and Roch Jauberty, 21, were instantly killed as their van “flipped three times” while they were traveling to Tongariro Crossing, a renowned destination in New Zealand. Another student, Margaret Theriault, has been admitted to a hospital for her severe injuries, while four other students sustained minor injuries.

Reportedly, three minivans carrying a total of 26 students were driving toward the destination when the second minivan “drifted into the gravel shoulder”, which allegedly caused the driver to “over-correct.” This subsequently caused  the vehicle  to flip, which resulted in the fatalities.

Police spokeswoman Kim Perks stated that investigators will look into driver error as a potential cause of the crash. Also, according to the Boston Globe, each minivan provided only seven seats, which caused some students to ride without a seatbelt.

Boston University president Robert Brown offered his condolences to the families of the victims in an issued statement.

An airplane crash in southeast Kansas has resulted in four fatalities and one severely injured passenger.

All five passengers had connections to Oral Roberts University and were traveling in the small airplane to attend a Christian youth rally in Iowa.

According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the plane, a twin-engine Cessna 401, crashed around 4:30 p.m. last Friday and subsequently “caught fire.”

In an issued statement, Oral Roberts President Mark Rutland has requested that the community keep sole survivor Hannah Luce, 22, (pictured above) in their prayers. He has also asked that they keep those who lost their lives in their memories.

Luce is scheduled to undergo surgery; she has sustained critical burns on 28% of her body.

Fake Police Officer Killing Mississippi Drivers

Two people have been killed in Mississippi within the past month after being pulled over by a phony police officer, according to police. Now, authorities are asking for the public’s help in tracking down the killer.

The two victims were both found in remote areas with their cars pulled over to the side of the road, which has led police to believe the shooter is posing as an officer. The shootings took place about 55 miles apart, and the victims do not have any known connection.

On May 8th, authorities found the first victim, Thomas Schlender. The 74 year old man was discovered inside of his car on Interstate 55 in Panola County around 1:30 am.

Lori Anne Carswell, 48, was found dead on Mississippi Highway 713 in Tunica County on Friday. Police found her body outside of her car in the median at 2:15 am.

All drivers are being told to pull into a well-lit area if being pulled over, and to call 911 for verification that the officer is legitimate if they have any questions.

Strauss-Kahn Countersues Sexual Harassment Accuser

After famously falling into disgrace due to allegations of sexual harassment, former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has now decided to strike back against his accuser.

On Monday of this week, Strauss-Kahn filed a countersuit against Nafissatou Diallo, the maid who accused him of raping her in his suite at the Manhattan Sofitel Hotel last May.

Specifically, he is asking for $1 million in damages citing “compensation for the loss of his job, defamation and false imprisonment.” Strauss-Kahn is maintaining that their sexual encounter was indeed consensual.

Diallo’s accusations caused the defamed Frenchman to resign from his IMF position and further interefered with any plans he may have had of becoming the socialist presidential candidate.

In addition to this ongoing legal case, Strauss-Kahn has come under fire once again for his possible connection to a prostitution ring in the northern city of Lille.

Derek Low, a freshman at UC Berkeley, has created “Berkeley Ridiculously Automated Dorm” or BRAD.

With three months, a few hundred dollars and an interest in engineering, the freshman was able to build automated lights, drapes, music, and motion detection. Everything is controlled through voice recognition and is even hooked up to Low’s computer, allowing the room to be controlled through his iPhone and iPad.

BRAD is also able to go into different modes, including: “Homework” which turns the lights of Low’s desk on; “Romance” which sets the right mood music and lighting; and “Party” mood which plays party tunes, and includes a strobe light and disco ball.
