A 25-year-old female has pleaded guilty to fraud and forgery charges after reportedly feigning cancer.
According to New York Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman, Jessica Vega duped people and businesses into believing she was stricken with terminal cancer in order to finance her May 2010 wedding and honeymoon in the Caribbean.
Michael O’ Connell, her husband, who was not charged, went to the Times-Herald-Record in Orange County with the revelations. The couple later divorced.
After eight weeks in jail, Vega faces five years of probation, 300 hours of community service, and $13,368.48 in restitution.
