A new drug, Belviq, is the first new prescription drug for long-term weight loss to be entered into the U.S. market in over a decade after The Food and Drug Administration approved the Arena Pharmaceutical’s anti-obesity pill.

Although the drug only achieved moderate weight loss during clinical trials, the drug appeared to be safe enough for the FDA to approve and endorse the new pill.

With diabetes or high cholesterol being a medical complication for the new pill, the agency cleared the new medication on Wednesday for adults whom are obese or over weight.

In 2010, the FDA denied approval for the Arena’s drug after scientists raised concerns about tumors that had developed in the animals studied with the drug.

What seemed to be a miracle was simply impossible.

The Seth MacFarlane comedy, Ted, opened as the No. 1 movie with $54.1 million.

Many were surprised that the R-rated film, which stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, and MacFarlane as the titled character, a raunchy teddy bear, was as big of a hit as it was.  The film is the third-best debut ever for an R rated comedy, only behind The Hangover Part II and Sex and the City.

Following behind was Magic Mike, the Channing Tatum led male-stripper tale, which debuted at No. 2 with $39.2 million.

At No. 3 was Pixar’s Brave, which racked up $34 million in it’s second weekend, while Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection opened at No. 4 with $26.4 million.

The only new film in wide release that failed was sibling drama People Like Us, a film starring Chris Pine as a man who gets himself into a very awkward relationship with the half-sister (Elizabeth Banks) he never knew he had.

Rounding out the top five films was Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted.
