A man was detained Tuesday in Texas when a Judge suggested he might flee to Mexico if released. Jose Trevino Morales was accused in an alleged scheme to buy and train racehorses to benefit the Zetas drug cartel, which is based in Mexico.

Morales is the brother of two alleged cartel leaders and is one of 15 people charged in the money-laundering scheme. Supporters argued that Trevino is the innocent brother of two men, Miguel Angel and Oscar Omar Trevino Morales who are supposed near the top of the notorious cartel.

Jose Trevino pleaded not guilty, and his attorney David Finn, argued that he wasn’t a flight risk or a risk to the community or to commit a crime. The judge, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Lane decided that he wasn’t a risk to society, but thought Trevino might flee to Mexico.
