With the weather hitting triple digits over the weekend on the east coast there’s no doubt we are having a heat wave around the country. A heat wave that unfortunately has taken over a dozen lives.
In the midwest it has been a two week long heat wave. During this heat wave St. Louis, MO has had 9 consecutive days over 100 degrees and Chicago has had 3 days. The death toll has sadly reached above 46.
The death rates are ridiculously high. Especially in Virginia with the highest number of deaths at 10, Maryland with 9, and Illinois with 6. Sadly 3 of those deaths were of children.
Along with the heat wave has come some wicked storms. These storms caused power outages everywhere. Over 400,000 outages occurred within West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio.
Surprisingly, these heat waves are breaking record temperatures in many cities such as St. Louis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Chicago. The last time St. Louis saw 9 straight day of temperatures over 100 was in the year 1936.
