George Zimmerman was released from a Florida jail on Friday on $1 million bail. Zimmerman is charged
with second-degree murder for killing the late Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman left the John E. Polk Correctional Facility with an electronic monitoring device according to the spokeswoman for the Seminole County Sheriff’s department.
Although this is not the first time Zimmerman was released from jail on bond, this time is much stricter.
Not to long ago Zimmerman’s official website set up a legal defense fund in his name and raised $20,000 in just 24 hours after the decision was made to grant Zimmerman bond for a second time.
The boy who was murdered, Trayvon Martin, was a young innocent teenager when he was killed. His parents believe that Zimmerman should be in jail but they will respect whatever the judge’s decisions may be. Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton is still hurting from the lost of her beloved son. Fulton says, “Trayvon was my baby and I usually get emotional just thinking about the situation, just to know that the killer of my son may walk free someday. It just really hurts.”
Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester believed that Zimmerman and his wife would attempt to leave the country after he was released on bond from jail. This being the main reason Zimmerman was ordered to wear the electronic monitoring device once released.
The Zimmerman family knew they would not be able to make the bail of $1 million. His defense fund was at $211,000 as of last Thursday. But, before the donations were collected he owed $40,000 in just expenses. The man who manages the website, Shawn Vincent, said the largest donation overnight was $1,000. Although, the majority of donations were between $10 and $25.
Zimmerman’s release comes with a large set of rules he must obey. Along with wearing the electronic monitoring device he must remain in Seminole County, be no where near the ORlando-Sanford International Airport, he must not apply for a passport, cannot hold a bank account, no alcohol, and he must obey a curfew of 6pm to 6am.
According the defense website Zimmerman was taken to a temporary safe house and would once found he would move to the permanent safe house.
The killing of Trayvon Martin was on the night of February 26. He was shot to death in a gated community in Sanford, Florida. The killing effected many people around the country. Not only was the teen innocent but the guilty Zimmerman was not arrested at first because of the Florida law of “Stand Your Ground” that was claimed to be used by Zimmerman. He was then arrested for second-degree murder and would have 25 years to life in prison. His wife Shellie was charged with perjury in this case because he was working with Zimmerman to hide from the police a large amount of money, $135,000. This money was raised from the Zimmerman website and was deposited into his PayPal account.
