Racist Tweet Gets Greek Olympian Expelled from the Games

As the 2012 Summer Olympics quickly approach, athletes from all over the world continue to prepare themselves for the games.  Greek triple-jump champion, Voula Papachristou, has decided to add writing a racist tweet to her preparation plans.  The 23-year-old athlete took to twitter to on Monday to address her frustration with the increase of Africans in her home country of Greece.

The controversial tweet read, “with so many Africans in Greece, at least the West Nile mosquitoes will eat homemade food”, and was met with immediate disgust by the general public.  Despite her attempts to claim that the tweet was merely ‘a joke’, the Greek Olympic Committee expelled the Olympian from the games in London.

Since being expelled, Papachristou has released an apology via twitter that starts by saying, “I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account.”
