Donald A. Perry, the vice president of corporate public relations for Chick-fil-A, has died.

Perry died of a heart attack on the morning of July 27.

In a statement to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Chick-fil-A said, “Don was a member of our Chick-fil-A family for nearly 29 years.  For many of you in the media, he was the spokesperson for Chick-fil-A.  He was a well-respected and well-liked media executive in the Atlanta and University of Georgia communities, and we will all miss him.”

Perry began working at Chick-fil-A in 1983 and was “responsible for external communications and publicity programs in support of key company initatives.”

In the last week, Perry had been busy over the company’s president, Dan Cathy, remarks about gay marriage.  In response to the statement, Perry wrote his own, which stated “going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena.”
