Everyone’s favorite coffee company, Dunkin’ Donuts, is being accused of making important decisions regarding employment on race and gender. A lawsuit was filed that accused the company of giving the white owners of franchises better, more profitable locations.
This is not the first time Dunkin’ Donuts has been faced with a lawsuit. Back in May, Priti Shetty, an Indian-American franchise owner was denied the opportunity to open a third location after the company forced her to keep her other two locations opened 24 hours. The location she was hopeful to open was granted to a different owner. Her lawsuit is now joined with another one from African-American couple, Amy and Reggie Pretto. The Pretto’s are claiming that Dunkin’ brands gave them “undesirable locations” to open instead of a better location.
The complaint says, “This action involves systematic racial discrimination by Dunkin’ Donuts against its own franchisees, particularly those who are Indian women of color and African Americans.”
Only 50 out of 70,000 franchises under the Dunkin’ Brands company are owned by African Americans.
At this time Dunkin’ Brands representatives are declining to make any comment on this subject according to an email received from the Huffington Post.
