An NBC affiliate in Utah has announced they will not be playing the upcoming Ryan Murphy sitcom “The New Normal” on their station.
KSL-TV refuses to play the show because they see it as “inappropriate on several dimensions.” “The New Normal” follows a mother who becomes a surrogate for a gay couple. It stars Justin Bartha, Ellen Barkin, and Georgia King. The show is set to debut on Sept. 11 on NBC at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Jeff Simpson, CEO of the station’s parent company Bonneville International, stated, “From time to time we may struggle with content that crosses the line in one area or another. The dialogue might be excessively rude and crude. The scenes may be too explicit or the characterizations might seem offensive.”
The decision to opt out of programming isn’t the first for KSL. Last year, they chose not to broadcast NBC’s “The Playboy Club,” which eventually ended up getting canceled after three episodes.
