Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis was found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

Lewis, 28, who played Kip “Half-Sack” Epps on the FX show and who once dated Katy Perry, was found lying in a driveway near Hollywood on Sept. 26.  He fell to his death from a building.

A woman identified as Catherine Davis, who was his landlady, was found dead of blunt force trauma inside the building.  She was 81 years old.

Police also found the body of a cat that had also been apparently beaten.

Lewis had just been released from jail only days before.  He had pled no contest on Aug. 8 to assault with a deadly weapon, and on Aug. 17 plead no contest to burglary.  He had been given a one year sentence for the first case and a 291 day one in the second, but Lewis was given hundreds of days credit for time already served and good behavior.  On Sept. 21, he was let go from the San Fernando Valley jail.

Just five days later, officers responded to a 911 call of a woman screaming.  She told them that Lewis had been fighting with two men and then died after a fall.

Police had concluded that Lewis killed Davis, and are not looking for any other suspects.  There is currently no indication of what the motive was.

Brooks and Coulson are just two of the seven ex-News of the World staff members who were accused of conspiracy to access voicemails.  The phone-hacking charge could involve around 600 victims.

The other former staff members from the now-defunct News of the World newspaper also facing trial include ex-managing editor Stuart Kuttner, former news editor Greg Miskiw, former head of news Ian Edmondson, ex-reporter James Weatherup and former chief report Neville Thurlbeck.

The trial date has been set for Sept. 9, 2013 and all of the defendants were released on bail.

Brooks, 44, is also facing another charge, as she’s being accused of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, also known as hiding evidence from the police.  Her husband, Charlie, her chauffer Paul Edwards, former personal assistant Cheryl Carter, head of security at News International Mark Hanna, and security Staff Daryl Jorsling and Lee Sandell are also facing the same charges.

NFL and Referees Meet Agreement

The NFL has made an agreement with their referees.

The 121 members of the referees’ union is expected to vote on whether to ratify the agreement over the weekend, though officials will return to work on Thursday.

The referee lock-out began in June, after long-running pay and pensions disputes.  The NFL drafted in replacement officials to handle the games.

But, this lead to heavy criticism after many replacement referee’s were proven to be inexperienced.  In a recent event, on Sept. 24, the Seattle Seahawks were given a game-winning touchdown in the final seconds of the game.  However, commentators said it should not have been allowed because of an interception by a Green Bay Packers defensive player.

Most of the replacements had worked in lower-division college games and in minor professional organizations.
