Griselda Blanco, who was known as Colombia’s “Queen of Cocaine,” was killed in the northwestern city of Medellin.
Blanco, 69, was killed by two bullets at close range on Sept. 3.
On the afternoon of Sept. 3, witnesses claimed to hear the roar of a motorcycle and two gunshots. By the time police arrived at the scene, Blanco was dead, lying in a pool of blood.
Blanco was famous for shipping multi-ton shipments of cocaine from Colombia to Miami during the 1970s and ‘80s. She was the mastermind behind countless murders and linked to drug lord Pablo Escobar.
In 1975, Blanco was found guilty of conspiring to manufacture, smuggle and distribute cocaine in Miami. To avoid arrest, she lived in Colombia for the next decade, using fake names and documents. She was finally caught in 1985 in Irvine, California and sentenced to six years in prison.
In 1994, she was charged with ordering three murders in the Miami area. These three killings, which included the death of 3-year-old Johnny Castro, occurred in 1982. She remained in jail until 2004, and then was deported back to Colombia.
Blanco supposedly lived a quiet life from then on, and was gunned down as she was leaving a butcher shop with a pregnant daughter-in-law.
At the time of her death, Blanco was the mother of two children. One is still in jail in the United States, while the other lives in Colombia. Two other children were previously murdered.
