Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe has gone on a tirade in support of same-sex marriage.

Kluwe, who is married with two children, recently sent a letter to Maryland Rep. Emmett Burns, in response to Burns comments against Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo, a supporter of gay marriage.

Earlier in the week, Ayanbadejo had made comments supporting gay marriage.  Burns sent a letter out asking the ravens owner Steve Biscoitti to silence the Ravens player and have him keep his political opinions to himself.

Burns also said that the linebacker should “concentrate on football and steer clear of dividing the fan base.”

As soon as Kluwe heard about this, he immediately defended Ayanbadejo’s.  In his own letter to Burns, he stated, “I find it inconceivable that you are an elected official of Maryland’s state government.  Your vitriolic hatred and bigotry make me ashamed and disgusted to think that you are in any way responsible for shaping policy at any level.”

Since the publishing of Kluwe’s letter, Burns has been unavailable to comment about the situation.
