Andy Murray has won the US Open.

Murray, 25, is the first Brit to win the US male Grand Slam singles championship in the last 76 years.  Fred Perry was the last British winner in 1936.

Murray played against Novak Djokovic, winning 7-6 (12-10) 7-5 3-6 6-2 in four hours 54 minutes in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

This is the second major win for the British player, who previously won Olympic gold this summer.  He also reached the Wimbledon final.

And despite his other successes, this win will most likely impact his career more and the future of tennis in the United Kingdom.

Murray is currently ranked number 3 in the world.
