John Ingle dies at the age of 84
The legendary actor John Ingle has lost his longtime battle with cancer. He died this past Sunday at the age of 84.
Although he died as an actor he began as a teacher. Ingle worked as a drama teacher at Hollywood High School and Beverly Hills High School for a combined 30 years. A few of his students eventually went on to become established actors like David Schwimmer and Nicholas Cage. He then decided to retire from teaching in 1985 and pursue a career in show business.
He had roles in popular shows such as “Cheers”, “The Drew Carey Show”, “Beverly Hills 90210”, and “Dallas”. Ingle is known for one role specifically, as Edward Quartermaine on the last living ABC daytime soap opera, “General Hospital.” He made his last appearance as Edward Quartermaine on September 11th (which was taped on August 24th). Ironically in the very last scene he taped he was waving goodbye. We say farewell to Edward Quartermaine with the death of John Ingle.
Frank Valentini, the executive producer for “General Hospital” tweeted about the death of Ingle saying, “With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle’s passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family.”
John Ingle married his high school sweetheart, Grace-Lynne Martin in 1954. They had a beautiful family of five daughters and nine grandchildren. Grace-Lynne died in February of 2012.
