The issue of sexting is because more of an issue with each generation and will continue to become a bigger issue as time goes on. Unless parents start to really talk to their children about the risks of this risky act. Numerous studies are being done on how many kids are doing, why they’re doing it, and if it results in more risky sexual behavior.

In a Los Angeles high school about one out of every seven students have sent a inappropriate sexual message or photo to someone through their cell phone. Those students were also more likely to be currently having sex and maybe being a tad more risky with their bodies. And that is exactly what researchers are looking for, is there a connection between sexting and taking risks with your body. These researchers have found the answer to be yes.

A study was done in a high school in Houston, Texas. One out of every four students admitted to sending a naked photo of themselves through email or text message. Those kids were also more likely to be engaging in more risky behaviors than the students who have not exploited themselves through technology.

Jeff Temple, a psychologist and women’s health researcher from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, he too worked on the study done in Houston. He found that girls who said they sent those naked photos also were more likely to engage in sexual behavior under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He said, “What they’re doing in their offline lives is what they’re doing in their online lives.”

The study on the huge issue of sexting is nowhere near being solved. But, these researchers are determined to put a stop to it. A big part in helping solve this issue is to get involved. Sexting luckily is a much more approachable topic then just starting off discussing sex with a teenager. Whether you are a parent, teacher, or even a teenager yourself take action. Don’t sit back and wait for a controversy to start, try to talk to your teenagers about sexting and eventually sex and maybe the next generation won’t have a clue on what sexting is.
