Popular entertainer Chris Brown was seen in court last Monday for a probation progress hearing, during which the judge revealed that he had failed a drug test in Virginia, where he had been doing court-ordered community service after he was convicted of felony battery of Rihanna.

Brown, who is on five years probation for the 2009 beating of his ex-girlfriend, told authorities that he had ingested marijuana in California before he arrived in Virginia.

In California Brown has a medical marijuana card, however any possession of marijuana in Virginia is illegal.

Brown took a drug test in Virginia, which he failed. He had previously been ordered to do community service in his hometown of Richmond.

According to TMZ, Judge Patricia Schnegg has now added drug tests as part of Brown’s probation and reminded him that he must obey all laws. Since Brown lives in California, Schnegg moved the entire case to the state.

Brown also must complete his unfinished community service. Prosecutors say he has 121 hours left, although his attorney argues that it is much less.

Brown has 72 hours to meet with a probation officer to sort it out.

Schnegg also set a Nov. 1 probation violation hearing, during which it will be determined if he violated the traveling provisions.
