The pioneer of the globalization of basketball, David Stern, faced some apprehension following the NBA’s recent actions of its players and owners taking their negotiations into their own hands.
The surge of new owners found themselves turning a blind eye to Stern’s infamous advice that veteran owners such as Jerry Buss and Jerry Reinsdorf had always followed. The struggle for power began by the two parties setting their particular tones on how things would take place.
Fortunately for Stern he will exit the professional sports world remaining influential, successful and still on top. Under his authority starting circa 1984, he was able to witness the unraveling of racial tensions in order to help the league achieve popularity amid fans similar to the world of soccer.
With approximately 30 years invested into the business of basketball, Stern made sure that the NBA was technologically advanced and internationally ventured.
