Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have broken up.

“She broke up with him about a week ago.  With them being apart so much it got complicated.  She had some trust issues.  It’s not easy, but the relationship needed to end,” a source told PEOPLE.

The actress, 20, and the singer, 18, officially stepped out as a couple in February 2011, and fought off breakup rumors in August 2011 and July 2012.

Rumors of a split during the last couple weeks had arisen and hit a high note when Bieber was spotted seeing The Lion King on Broadway with a group of people, which included 19-year-old model Barbara Palvin.
