American Idol winner Kris Allen and his wife Katy are expecting their first child together.

Allen, who was involved in a head-on collision on Jan. 1, which resulted in a broken wrist, announced the couple’s news on Twitter.

“Thank you Ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family and the little one we have on the way safe.  Yes I got in a really bad wreck tonight and yes I’m having a lil baby. #gonnabeadaddy,” Allen, 27, tweeted.

The musician, who is expected to go on tour next week, announced his “Out Alive” tour is still on, but with surgery scheduled on Jan. 2, he might not be able to play guitar for a bit.

Allen and Katy, his high school sweetheart, were married in September 2008.
