Plane Carrying Vittorio Missoni Missing Near Venezuela

A small plane carrying six people, one of which is fashion director Vittorio Missoni, is missing off the coast of Venezuela.

The search for the missing aircraft, which was started on Jan. 4, has continued into Jan. 5.

Italy’s famed Missoni fashion house released is a statement that Vittori Missoni, son of the house’s founders Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, and his wife were on the plane.

“The small plane they were traveling on has disappeared.  This is all the information currently available,” the company statement said.

Missoni, 58, runs the company with his siblings, Luca and Angela.

Also on the plane were two Italian nationals, identitied as Guido Foresti and Elda Scalveuzi, a pilot and co-pilot.  All four Italians were on vacation at Los Roques, an archipelago and resort.

The plane, which left from Los Roques on the morning of Jan. 4, was bound for the international airport outside Caracas.

Italian authorities are currently in touch with their Venezuelan counterparts as well as the families of those missing.
