Sara Sierra, 33, a New York City woman, disappeared while on vacation in Turkey.
Sierra was noticed to be missing when she did not arrive home on her scheduled flight Tuesday afternoon.
Sierra’s father arrived at the airport to pick her up. After waiting for hours, there were no signs of his daughter.
Sierra’s husband contacted the hostel that Sierra was staying at it was reported that the mother of two’s belongings were still there.
Sierra traveled to Turkey alone on January 7, 2013 to explore her hobby of photography. When a friend couldn’t make it, Sierra still decided to go.
According to Betzaida Jimenez, her daughter planned to head to the Galata Bridge, a popular tourist destination that runs across the Golden Horn Waterway.
“I was nervous, I didn’t want my daughter to go,” said Jimenez, however, the trip had passed smoothly with her daughter’s daily text messages and calls to friends and family.
“She would always call and let us know, ‘this is what I did today,’”
The family has contacted the authorities in hopes to find her.
Sierra’s brother, David Jimenez, told The Associated Press that he and Sierra’s husband plan to leave for Turkey Sunday night in hopes to find their loved one.
The two do not have a return date planned, according to Jimenez. “I don’t want to come home without my sister,” he said.
Adults in the family have kept the situation from Sierra’s children, ages 11 and 9, to protect both them.
Sierra’s mother explained that the entire situation has become a nightmare.
“I am forcing myself to get up because I have to,” she said.
Through it all however, this close-knight family are still keeping their faith.
“We’re praying and trusting God that she’s safe somewhere and we’re going to find her,” said Jimenez.
