Former child bride Ruby Jessop has escaped the polygamist Mormon sect known as the FLDS.

Just a week and a half after Ruby was forced to marry her second cousin at age 14, she called her older sister Flora begging for help.

But before Flora could pick up her sister at the main FLDS compound in Colorado City, Ariz., Ruby was taken away by sect members.  A decade long search began and only came to an end in December 2012.

Ruby, now 26, was able to flee the compound, but temporarily had to leave behind her six children, ages 2 to 10.

A press conference was held on Jan. 22 by Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne, and attended by Flora, Ruby and her children.  Horne announced Ruby’s escape and the successful attempt to regain custody of all her children.

Flora, who’s now an anti-polygamy activist, is just happy that her sister is now home.

“They were determined to keep my sister as a baby breeder her whole life,” adds Flora. “That’s the reality for women in the FLDS community.”
