The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31, in Super Bowl XLVII.
The game, which was played in New Orleans, started off as a blowout for the Ravens in the first half, with quarterback Joe Flacco throwing three first-half touchdowns. Jacoby Jones returned the second-half kickoff 108 yards, which is a Super Bowl record. This led the Ravens 28-6.
Then after a blackout of the stadium for over a half an hour, the 49ers came back with 17 consecutive points, getting as close as 31-29.
After what appeared to become a win for the 49ers, Baltimore stopped them on fourth-and-goal from the 5 with just 2 minutes left on the clock.
The Ravens ultimately beat the 49ers 34-31, leaving Baltimore linebacker Ray Lewis a Super Bowl champion right before he retires after over 16 years of playing for his team.
This is the first Super Bowl that the 49ers have ever lost, with their record previously having been 6-0. As for the Ravens, they now have a 2-0 record in the Super Bowl.
However, the game wasn’t only just a rival between the Ravens and the 49ers, but also between brothers. Baltimore coach John Harbough is the older brother of San Francisco coach Jim Harbough.
Playing at halftime was Beyonce, with a surprise appearance by Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland. Beyonce played a melody of some of her most famous songs, and sang hit Destiny’s Child songs with Williams and Rowland.
