Oscar Pistorius, the “Blade Runner” who made history last year as the first Paralympian to compete in the Olympics, has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, model Reeva Steenkamp.

Steenkamp, 30, was found shot dead inside Pistorius’s home in South Africa, after being shot four times in the predawn hours.  The home is located in a gated community in Pretoria.

Steenkamp’s publicist Sarit Tomlinson said, “Our thoughts and prayers go to the Steenkamp family, who have asked to have their privacy respected during this difficult time, everyone is simply devastated.  She was the kindest, sweetest human being; an angel on Earth and will be sorely missed.

Police have stated that a 9 mm pistol was recovered at the scene.  Earlier reports state that Steenkamp was planning a Valentine’s surprise for Pistorious, 26, but it went horribly wrong.  These reports, however, have been unconfirmed by police.

There is no other suspect involved in the case, and previous incidents had occurred at Pistorious’ home.

The suspect, who initially wasn’t named per South African law, has been cooperative and undergone blood alcohol and forensic tests.  He has been requested to be brought straight to court and bail has been refused.

Pistorious’ court hearing was originally to have been down on the afternoon of Feb. 14, but has been postponed until Feb. 15 to give forensics investigators more time to carry out their work.
