A young woman’s body has been found in a Los Angeles hotel’s water tank.

Elisa Lam’s corpse was found in the Cecil Hotel’s rooftop water tank by a maintenance worker on Feb. 19.  The worker had been trying to figure out why the water pressure was so low.

Lam’s parents reported her missing in early February, and she had last been seen at the hotel on Jan. 31.  Detectives are now looking into the 21-year-old Canadian’s suspicious death.

Visitors at the Los Angeles hotel had been using the water to bathe, brush their teeth, and even drink for the two weeks that Lam’s decomposing body was in the water tank.  It’s currently unclear whether the water presented any health risks to those who consumed it, but test results on the water should be released soon.

Hotel management has yet to comment on the incident, but have told guests not to drink the water.
