Drew Peterson has been convicted of murdering his third wife.

The former suburban Chicago police officer was sentenced to 38 years in prison for murdering Kathleen Savio.  He had faced a maximum of 60 years, since Illinois doesn’t have the death penalty, but ultimately was given 42 years, and credited with four years’ for time served since his arrest.

Jurors convicted Peterson, 59, in September for the 2004 death of Savio.  Neighbors had found her body in a dry bathtub in her home with a gash on her head and her hair soaked in blood.

The disappearance of Stacy Peterson, Peterson’s 23-year-old fourth wife, back in 2007, led to authorities looking back at Savio’s death.  It had originally been labeled as an accident.

Peterson is also a suspect in the disappearance of his fourth wife.
