Melting the Winter Boredom

There is nothing like sitting in your living room, enjoying a nice roaring fire, a pleasing cup of hot cocoa, and being incredibly bored. Yes bored. What is more boring than being cooped up in a snowed-in house all day with nothing to do except watching television or reading? With this circumstance in mind, here is a short list of great movies that will keep you warm in this cold weather.

  1. Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)

This well-written comedy set in Hawaii is a no-brainer when it comes to avoiding the cold. In this movie, we follow Jason Segel recuperate from his nude breakup through the sunny beach vistas, the night time Luaus, the crystal clear ocean, and the cliff side diving. The added bonus to this hot setting? Oh nothing, just an excellent cast filled with hilarious dialogue and a very satisfying muppet ending.

  1. Indiana Jones (1981, 1984, 1989).

When it comes to having an awesome adventure, it is hard to top Indiana Jones (except for The Crystal Skull, you can certainly top that dud). Throughout Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Temple of Doom, and the Last Crusade, fans of the silver screen have witnessed Mr. Jones kick Nazi and Thuggee ass through the settings of Egypt, India, Italy, and Jordan. What is more awesome than a man who brings a whip to a gunfight? These quality movies and their hot settings are sure to melt the wintertime boredom.

  1. Scarface(1983)

If you are in more of a rise and fall epic gangster scenario to spice up your surroundings, then Scarface is the obvious solution. This story of the human cocaine vacuum Tony Montana gives us a very morbid depiction of the American Dream, but in the positively vibrant setting of Miami. Whether Tony is witnessing Omar dangling from a helicopter in Bolivia or dancing the night away in a cocaine frenzy at a Miami club, this is the crime movie that will be bring the much needed change of pace.

  1. Drive (2011)

If you happen to be in the mood for a film that is both existential and a thriller, then go park yourself in a seat, buckle up, and enjoy the Drive. Drive is a nice cruise that gives us one of Ryan Gosling’s best performances and a driven plot that refuses to pump the brakes. During this ride, you will be able to view the temperate setting of Los Angeles and witness activities that will make you yearn for spring. This action is both hot with its setting, characters, and cars.

  1. Jaws (1975)

What is scarier than a giant man-eater fatally interrupting your skinny dip in the ocean? This movie provides an amazing story about a three ton horror from the sea’s depths harassing a New England beach community. At least they have other things to do on Amity Island besides swimming. The white-sand beach, the vast ocean spectacle, and the hot weather looks like a real life paradise (something we wish we could relate to during this season). But behind the sun-tanning, the margarita sipping, and the causal fishing, this story will make you want to stay on land for a very long time.

I hope this short list will be helpful for those that are sick of this freezing weather. The Buckingham Post wishes you all a very warm and safe winter!
