In a very tough battle that remained scoreless in regulation time, Germany was able to pull out a victory against Argentina in the World Cup Final with a score of 1-0.
Both sides played tough and had many good shots, but both defenses would not let up.
Not until the 113th minute would Germany score. Schweinsteiger centered the ball to Mario Gotze who would then drill the ball into the goal with his left. The 22-year-old did not even start for Germany’s last three games.
For Argentina, it was too little, too late. The last play of the game was a free kick from Lionel Messi which sailed over the crossbar in the 123rd minute.
Colombia’s James Rodriguez was rewarded the Golden Boot as he scored 6 times throughout the World Cup.
The host for the next World Cup in 2018 will be Russia.
