Last month, Arnold Schwarzenegger made headlines with the details of his extramarital affair with his housekeeper. His wife, Maria Shriver is now back in the spotlight as she files for divorce from the former Governor of California. It was not long after the affair was announced that it was made known that Schwarzenegger fathered a child with the same housekeeper within a week of fathering a child with Shriver. On May 9th, their separation was announced and Schwarzenegger revealed the fact that he had a child with their housekeeper about a week later.
Shriver cited “irreconcilable differences” in her divorce petition and has petitioned to share joint custody of their two children who are minors. This information undoubtedly came as a shock to the nation, but Schwarzenegger has stated that “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family”.
Shriver has mentioned that her main concern is for their children, and has asked for “compassion, respect and privacy” while they take care of personal matters.
