Christopher “Dudus” Coke, Jamaica’s most notorious gang leader, has been sentenced to 23 years in a US prison.

Coke, who had provoked a state of war in Kingston in 2010 when he resisted arrest, was sentenced by a federal judge in New York.  Last August, he had pleaded guilty over charges that included trafficking 3 tons of marijuana and 30 pounds of cocaine to the US.

The drug lord has also been order to pay $1.5 million as payback for the profit he made from his global trafficking operation, that had major hubs in Kingston, Miami and New York.

Coke’s sentencing has brought down the end of his 20 year reign in Jamaican political interests.  Prior to turning himself in, he had been on the US department of justice’s list of the world’s most dangerous drug traffickers.

Coke’s reign was so large, that he had his own army of 200 soldiers and a makeshift jail to punish people.  He had even organized schooling for poor local families, which helped in his popularity.  But, despite this, Coke is also dangerous.  He supposedly would cut people with chain saws.

After serving his sentence, Coke will be deported back to Jamaica.

What are Bath Salts?

Lately, the drug known as bath salts has been in the news, thanks to the “Miami Zombie” and other cases.  But what are bath salts?

Bath salts are a type of drug, made up of synthetic amphetamines and hallucinogens.  It’s also a catch-all name for a group of at least three synthetic drugs, which first showed up in 2008, first in Europe and Asia, then in the United States.  The chemicals found in the drug is often produced in India and China, then shopped to the United States, where they are mixed and distributed.  The most common places to find bath salts for sale are at head shops, gas stations, and online.

The main problem with bath salts, and was has most likely caused all these strange cases, is that there could really be anything in them.

“There’s absolutely zero idea of what they’re putting in these things.  If you’re a user and you’re trying it, you’re playing Russian roulette,” said Jeffrey Scott, a spokesman for the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Bath salts are primarily marketed towards young adults as a legal high, and depending on the mix, the drug can provoke effects that are similar to both stimulants and hallucinogens.  This mix can provoke psychotic episodes.

So far, to fight against the growing popularity of the drug, the federal government banned three of the chemicals used in bath salts in October 2011.

The wife of missing “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines” actor Nick Stahl, Rose Stahl, has spoken out about her husband’s disappearance a little over a week ago. The actor is currently recovering from drug addiction.

Rose Stahl officially filed a missing person’s report this past Monday morning, although Los Angeles police officers are not “treating it like a crime” because there’s “really nothing mysterious” about Nick’s disappearance.

According to Rose, it is possible that Nick overdosed on drugs, but this is not the first time the actor has gone missing since their marriage in 2009. In the past, Nick has returned after one to four days.

A woman was recently caught with over 180 pellets filled with heroin in her stomach.

Bola Adebisi, 52, swallowed the almost 5 pounds of the drug before she attempted to get into the United States.

Airport staff became suspicious of her when Adebisi told them that she had flown in to visit her brother, however she could neither describe him nor give his address.

Custom officials at Dulles International Airport in Washington gave her a routine pat-down and realized that her stomach was abnormally rigid. They performed an X-ray on her, which revealed the pellets.  The heroin is estimated to be worth $150,000.

Adebisi, who is Nigerian, was immeadietly taken to the hospital and kept there until she had passed all of the packs.

She had arrived to Washington on a flight from Ethiopia, which also had a stop in Rome.

Dulle Airport’s previous record for heroin swallowed was 100 pellets, which weighted about 4 pounds.  The 46-year-old man was also Nigerian, and was caught last year.

Adebisi has been charged with drug-smuggling.

A mumbling man Tasered by police turned out to have crack cocaine in his mouth.

Frank Lee Turner, 58, of Ambridge, Penn. was a passenger in a car at a traffic stop on Feb. 5.  Only two men had seat belts on.

Turner left the car when the police were talking to the driver.  When he was returned, he began to mumble a response.  Turner began to struggle with the police and during the struggle a single piece of crack cocaine fell out of his mouth.

Police suspected he had more in his mouth and after Turner struck an officer in the head, they used a Taser on him.  Only two pieces of crack cocaine had fallen out, and when police noticed that Turner was attempting to swallow the rest of the cocaine, police used the Taser again.  This time Turner spit out 19 more pieces, for a total of 23 individually wrapped pieces of crack cocaine.

Turner has been charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest and drug possession with intent to deliver.

The new trend in designer drugs, over-the-counter synthetic stimulants, has been found to cause serious physical and mental health problems.

This caused the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to make the substances illegal on Friday, Oct. 21.

Examples of these drugs include bath salts, the most common, and plant foods.  They contain three controlled stimulants: Mephedrone; 3, 4 methylenedioxypyrovalerone; and Methylone.  They can cause paranoia, agitation, and an increase in heart rate and blood pressure.

The effects of these drugs are similar to that of crystal meth, but they are easier for teenagers to find and buy.

Mother’s Drugs Make It to Show and Tell

When told to bring in something special from home for show and tell, Missouri kindergartener decided mom’s crack pipe was exactly what the teacher had in mind.  A six-year-old boy from Sweet Springs Elementary found his mother’s drug paraphernalia and brought it to class, along with a few small bags of crystal meth.

Michelle Marie Cheatham, the 32 year old mother, was charged with a class C felony for possession on Monday, September 12.  She was also charged for the endangerment to her child’s life.

The fiasco led to concerned calls from school officials to the police.  This led the police department to gather a search warrant and search the Cheatham household, where they found a crack pipe.  The value of the drugs in possession was estimated to be up to $3,700.  Once tested, the crystals brought into the school were found positive for methamphetamine.

The conviction of Cheatham could result in a year in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.  Her hearing will be held on Wednesday, September 28.

Casey Anthony’s Father Believes Drugs Killed Caylee

George and Cindy Anthony, parents of Casey Anthony, appeared on the television show “Dr. Phil” to offer their views on what they believe happened to their three-year-old granddaughter, Caylee Anthony.

The two had very different opinions, with George Anthony believing someone drugged Caylee, while Cindy Anthony believes Caylee drowned.

“I believe that Casey or someone else that she was with, possibly gave too much to Caylee, she fell asleep and didn’t wake up. That’s what I feel,” George Anthony said on the “Dr. Phil” show.

Despite differing opinions on how Caylee died, both believe that Casey tried to cover their granddaughter’s death and knew where she was buried.

“I believe Casey knew or had knowledge of placing Caylee there,” Cindy Anthony said. “…I’m not justifying what Casey did. But until I find out what happened to Caylee and what happened to Casey that day, I have to live with what I know.”

The case of Caylee Anthony became national news when she went missing in Orlando in 2008.  Her skeletal remains were found in an area close to the Anthony’s home in Dec. 2008.

Casey Anthony went to trial for her daughter’s death earlier this year and was acquitted in July, but found guilty of four charges of lying to the police.  She’s currently in an unknown location in Florida, serving a year of probation for unrelated check fraud.

The episode with George and Cindy Anthony aired on Wednesday, Sept. 14, and was part of a two part interview.  A part of the interview, which focuses on Casey Anthony’s trial, will air later in the month.
