Netflix to stream Disney, Pixar and Marvel starting in 2016

Netflix aims a hard-hitting blow at pay-TV site Starz after obtaining the rights to stream Walt Disney Studio films starting in 2016. The three-year contract will put Netflix in the running with other well-known pay-TV sites, such as HBO and Showtime.

On top of Disney, Netflix has also gained the rights to both Pixar and Marvel films. Luckily, Disney fans may not have to wait four years until seeing their favorite animated classics.

Netflix has been given the non-exclusive rights to add certain movies as soon as possible, which include titles such as “Dumbo,” “Pocahontas” and “Alice In Wonderland,” according to LA Times.

While it may seem unclear exactly how much Netflix will benefit from the addition of these timeless classics, Disney is seeing immediate effects. Reuters reported that Disney will be collecting a grand total of $350 million per year from Netflix.

Along with the future movie additions, the site is also working on a variety of television series all their own. This includes an original thriller titled “Lilyhammer.”

“Lilyhammer” is about an ex-mobster who checks himself into a witness protection program in Norway, and it will star the “Sopranos” actor Steven Van Zandt as the ex-mobster.

With Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and a variety of original new series a part of their 2016 line-up, it is only a matter of time before Netflix is seeing the benefits of their new contract.

Final 4 of The Voice decided after shocking eliminations

The Voice stunned America when two fan favorites were sent home on Tuesday. Both Melanie Martinez and Amanda Brown have been sent packing.

Melanie Martinez, known for her gothic style and her subtle emphasis on Hello Kitty, had the best performance of since being on the show the week before. Singing what was dubbed as “her strongest vocal yet, a smoky, jazzy rendition of Fiona Apple’s ‘Criminal’” with fellow contestant Nicholas David, it seemed strange that she would go home.

Regardless of Martinez’s singles getting sold on iTunes faster than most of the other competitors, America did not give her enough votes to move on the next round.

As for Amanda Brown, the shock may not still have set in for all viewers. People were stunned she went home, but trying to figure out who could have gone home before her was somewhat of a difficult task. It seemed that fans wished they could have kept Brown just one more week, because if she had stayed she could have made it to the top.

The Final 4 on The Voice are Terry McDermott, Trevin Hunte, Cassadee Pope, and Nicholas David. Next week, the semi-finals begin on Monday at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Zynga, Inc. stocks fall 12% after contract revision with Facebook, Inc.

Zynga Inc. suffered a devastating loss when their shares fell 12 percent in after-hours trading on Nov. 29. This drop in shares occurred soon after Zynga and Facebook Inc., revised their agreements, changing their relationship status to “It’s complicated.”

With games that ranged from “FarmVille” to “Words with Friends,” Zynga has created large variety of popular games that have exploded on the Facebook network.  Now, through the newly revised contract, Zynga and Facebook will be almost completely independent of one another, according to The Washington Post.

This will mean that Zynga is no longer required to have Facebook advertisements in their game play and will no longer make Facebook their exclusive social networking site.

Michael Patcher, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, told Wall Street Journal Market Beat blogger, Steven Russolillo, that, “Zynga now has an incentive to expand the reach of its most popular social games beyond Facebook and Zynga.com and be able to offer additional payment options, likely resulting in additional payers who are not Facebook users.”

The original agreement, which was filed in 2010, also prohibited Facebook from making it’s own games. With the current revisions, by March 2013 Facebook will be able to create and develop their own games. However, according to the Market Beat blog, Facebook has no current intentions of developing their own games.

While the numbers may not be showing the glass half-full for Zynga, both Zynga and the analysts feel that this move will, in the end, be extremely beneficial for the company to grow and expand to other media platforms.

Angelina Jolie is Awarded the Highest Rank by the U.N.

After being newly engaged to Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie was honored with the title of U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Tuesday.

Jolie has worked for the organization for the past 10 years as a goodwill ambassador. She’s traveled to refugee camps around the world in places like Haiti, Iraq, and Syria. After her extensive work, she will represent the UNHCR at the diplomatic level to governments and diplomats.

UNHCR spokesman Adrian Edwards said, “In her new role, she is expected to focus on large-scale crises resulting in the mass displacement of people. I don’t think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she is getting for the plight of the world’s displaced. That can mean conveying messages to governments. It can mean conveying messages to other people and partners that we work with.”

T.I. Will Star in VH1 Reality Series

T.I. will already be a busy man after he is released from prison September 29, 2011. He and his wife Tameka (Tiny) will both star on VH1 reality series. The series will concentrate on his life after prison, trying to familiarize himself with the outside world.

In addition to getting an inside look into the rapper’s life, viewers also be re-acquainted to Tiny’s pop girl group the OMG Girlz. The group was first introduced on BET’s “Tiny & Toya”. The two season long television series starred Tiny and Toya Wright.

The hype for the show is definitely positive because fans are ready to see T.I. get back on his feet and back to the top.

“Viewers have always connected with T.I. and we are definitely thrilled to show the next chapter of this incredible artist’s riveting life with this new series,” said Jeff Olde, EVP, Original Programming and Production VH1.  “T.I is such a multi-talented artist and actor, and though he has had some setbacks, there is no doubt he will use his considerable talents to get back on top of both the music and film business.”

The series will be produced by 51 Minds and Category 5 Entertainment. It’ll also be have duration of 30 minutes.

The reality series is set to air December 5, 2011 and is currently untitled.

Mike Myers is reportedly writing, producing, and staring in a fourth 'Austin Powers' movie

Austin Powers seems like a distant memory since his last appearance in 2002’s “Goldmember”. After gong 9 years M.I.A., it’s pretty surprising he’s making a comeback. Hitflix reports that Mike Myers is supposed to write, produce, and star in the fourth “Austin Powers” movie.

The deal is allegedly set in stone, but Myer, who’s 48, could still withdraw at this point.  

In 1997, “Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery” was released. “The Spy Who Shagged Me” followed in 1999 and “Austin Powers in Goldmember” in 2002. The trilogy earned $676,356,278 worldwide.

Delay on ‘Lone Ranger’ Filming

Depp co-stars in Disney's movie 'Lone Ranger'

Disney put a production delay on Johnny Depp’s re-make of Lone Ranger. First reported by Mike Fleming, executives at the studio had a rising concern about the movie’s $200 million budget and put a temporary stop on the filming that was suppose to start in October.

“It’s not dead and gone,” says one Disney executive. “It’s a priority project for the studio. We want to make this movie.” This is a good thing due to the anticipation of the movie due to Depp’s “reinvention“.The cast and crew has many members of the Pirates of the Caribbean team including: Depp, director Gore Verbinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, just to name a few.

The film was scheduled to be released December 21, 2012.

Miley Cyrus’ Hacker Pleads Guilty

Miley Cyrus and 100+ people now how closure after the hacker who hacked the singer’s e-mail, who later leaked revealing photos of her in 2008 when she was 15 years old, has plead guilty to hacking and fraud charges.

21 year old, Josh Holly, confessed to the U.S. District Court in Tennessee. He also came clean about other crimes such as, possession of 200 stolen credit card numbers and device fraud. He also admitted hacking into celebrities’ MySpace accounts to send spam and was allegedly paid over $100,00 by a cell phone company for his “services”.

Though Holly was only charged on federal crimes connected to his illegal activities, he faces up to 13 years in federal prison and massive fines. Holly will be sentenced in October.

Yesterday Julia Roberts Ad was banned in UK by the UK’s Advertising Standards Agency for the simple fact that it’s misleading and will lead the audience to think she is “younger than what she really is.” Like really come on now, isn’t that what the product she was advertising for suppose to do? Why else would they use the actress Julia Roberts. They say the ad is airbrushed making her not even look if it was her natural skin. The product she was advertising for is called Lancome Paris.

This leads me to think in UK do women wear make-up. It also makes me question how are make-up/skin enrichment advertisements displayed in this country if Julia Roberts is having her ad banned!

Many of you all may know Kelly Rowland’s album was released July 26th, 2011. The album was a much anticipated one where everyone was on the edge of their seats waiting to hear what she had to say on the CD. Some went on to compare Kelly Rowland’s “Here I am” and Beyonce’s “4″ album due to the simple fact that they were both released around the same time. Intentional, maybe but I think that’s highly unlikely. At the release party, the former members of Destiny’s Child were all in one room. Creating a buzz to whether or not the three of them, Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle, were going to “tie the knott” with creating a Destiny’s Child reunion, which needs to happen! But watching E! Hollywood I later found out this was highly unlikely due to the successful accomplishments the three individuals are achieving by themselves. But it would be nice!

At her album release party there were many known artist ranging from, Wiz Khalifa, Maxwell, Tinika Sumpter and many more. I do wish Kelly Rowland the best of luck with her album and hope there are many more under way.
